A Buyers Guide to Paris
Several times a year our Buying Team heads to Paris - It is here that Jane, who heads up the gift and accessories buying, finds the majority of her new and exciting lifestyle products and accessories. Producers from all over the world - large and small - merge on the city to show off their wares.
It is hard and satisfying work sourcing products we think our customers will love. We are often in Paris for 4/5 days so always find the time to explore.
Top of our list for places to go to after a hard days work would have to be Le Marais.
This is a historic district known for its narrow medieval streets, aristocratic residences and lively atmosphere. Wander through the picturesque lanes, visit the Musée Picasso, and admire the stunning Hôtel de Ville (City Hall). The Place des Vosges, the oldest planned square in Paris, is perfect for a leisurely stroll or reviving gin and tonic!
Another place we discovered is Père Lachaise Cemetery. While a cemetery might seem like an unusual destination, Père Lachaise is one of the most famous cemeteries in the world. The final resting place of iconic figures such as Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, and Jim Morrison it offers a serene and quiet escape from the bustling city. Wander through the tree-lined avenues and discover the intricate sculptures and monuments that adorn the graves. The perfect place to escape the frenetic pace of buying and business.
Places to Eat
Its essential to keep energy levels up when trawling through trade shows and showrooms. We can easily clock up 20,000 steps a day so finding good places to eat is important.
Here are two of our favourites:
Chez Janou - For a taste of Provence in the heart of Paris, head to Chez Janou. This charming restaurant offers a menu filled with Southern French specialties, such as ratatouille, bouillabaisse, and lavender-infused desserts. The outdoor terrace is perfect for al fresco dining, while the extensive pastis selection adds an authentic touch to your meal.
L'As du Fallafel - Located in Le Marais, L'As du Fallafel is a legendary eatery renowned for its mouth-watering falafel sandwiches. The long lines are a testament to the deliciousness of these heaping pita pockets, filled with crispy falafel, fresh vegetables, and tangy tahini sauce. It's a must-try for both locals and visitors alike.
As Buyers - we love to shop so here, finally, are two places we make a beeline for every time we visit Paris.
Merci
Nestled in the heart of Paris, Merci is more than just a store; it's a celebration of style, creativity, and the art of living. Located in the vibrant Marais district, this iconic concept store has become a must-visit destination for fashion aficionados, design enthusiasts, and curious travellers alike.
Samaritaine
Always a destination for us is the incredible Samaritaine - just to ogle at the incredible building meticulously restored to its glory days by specialist contractors – alongside four architectural firms who worked across the space – it centres around the original glass-roofed atrium with its frescoed ceilings and dramatic metal staircase. Promising a ’temple of Parisian lifestyle’, it provides an expansive array of shopping opportunities catering to all. Even if just looking - there are six cafes and restaurants too choose from too so a visit is always worthwhile!
We hope you enjoy visiting Paris as much as we do - either for work or pleasure.
