The glass is designed to fit into the hand which then allows the ball to move in a circle around the central dome.  This concentrates the aromas and allows for aeration.  The more subtle aromas concentrate in the heart of the tulip shaped glass while the more volatile ethanol quickly escapes.

Adding the marble ball (which has been placed in the fridge beforehand) keeps the spirit at the ideal temperature without adding water.  This allows the spirit to be enjoyed in its purest form.
