How To Wear Neutrals

How To Wear Neutrals

Wearing neutrals is an easy way to create chic and sophisticated looks that are timeless and versatile.  It’s a particularly clever trick to employ when transitioning between seasons. As autumn progresses, we want to feel cosy and warm but still look stylish and combining neutrals can make this easier.

Neutral colours can be the foundation of a wardrobe as they easily mix and match with your other clothes.

The key is to combine textures. Add interest by wearing wool or cashmere, with tweed or leather or viscose with velvet or cord. This ensures the finished look isn’t flat or uniform.

The current trend for layering helps hugely, as again interest is added by the tank top or blazer popped on top.

Neutral doesn’t mean plain. Playing with patterns and prints adds a different dimension. A fine stripe or pretty check swill effortlessly coordinate your neutral palette and add a degree of intrigue.

So, what defines ‘neutral’? White, beige, cream, grey, black and brown – natural colours with a spectrum within each. These colours are not in the colour wheel. The caramel, sand and blush options are especially soft and gentle. Different shades of different neutrals create a compelling look.

Placing items beside your face will help discover which shades of neutral work for your skin tone. If you have warm undertones, camels, creams, tans and beige work well and accentuate the hair and eyes. If your complexion is cooler, your natural glow will be enhanced by greys, pure white and silvers.

And finally, here is our little check list of key wardrobe staples, guaranteed to work well and we hope make getting dressed in the morning much easier!

  1. White shirt
  2. White or cream t shirt.
  3. Camel coat.
  4. Beige trousers.
  5. Black jeans.
  6. Tan boots.
