When it comes to accessories and gifts we’ve developed a reputation for sourcing things that are beautiful, unusual and quirky. Our lifestyle buyer, Jane Pratt, is the creative brains behind our gifts and homeware department and she prides herself on tracking down something for everyone.

How did you become a buyer? I retrained as a florist in my 30s and now combine it with my role at Roxtons. I think being immersed in something so creative helps me understand what works visually – what looks great in our shops and also what would work in people’s homes. I also love shopping so this is a dream job for me.

What are you looking for when you buy new collections? I pride myself on finding products that you’re unlikely to see in any other shops outside London. I want people to come into Roxtons and be inspired to treat themselves or a loved-one.  As a florist fragrance is really important to me so we have some fabulous candles, diffusers and soaps; the divine Peony soap from Savonneries Bruxelloises is so spoiling! I’m also passionate about books and in the age of technology I think they are becoming the perfect present and escape from modern life. We source limited numbers of all our books from small publishers and have everything from coffee table interiors books to funny books for the loo.

Where do you source your products? One hunting ground is Paris. We used to just pop to the gift fairs in Birmingham and London but Paris is so much more inspiring and means we can find really unusual and unique things. Many of our designs are exclusive to Roxtons in the UK. We also like to work with small, independent British producers, for example those providing leather goods, the cards and books by The Field’s cartoonist Oliver Preston and our fab new mugs by Gabriella Shaw.

What are your favourite ‘finds’ this Spring/Summer? Our shops have had an injection of sunshine this summer with our fantastic party wear from Sunnylife – who doesn’t need a lobster ice cube tray in their life? Our Bali Towels are proving really popular, super soft cotton towelling on one side and fab summer prints on the other. My absolute favourite, however, has to be our one-of-a-kind clutch bags by Fonfique. Sourced in Paris but actually made by a small Turkish designer in oh-so-stylish Istanbul. Each bag is created using a hand drawn print as inspiration and the attention to detail is amazing from the leather tassels to the grosgrain and suede interiors.

Our gifts and home accessories are available in our shops in Hungerford, Alresford, Stockbridge and Haslemere – with selected items also available online.
